A bright idea that offers a ray of light to poor families in Philippines
What a bright idea from a Foundation that offers a ray of light to poor families in Philippines. A Litre of Light (Isang Litrong Liwanag), a humanitarian project launched a couple months ago is the talk of the world. Now fifteen thousand Filipino households are equipped with the solar light bulb and two hundred thousands more are expected by the end of the year.
The official video of YouTube has now gotten 1,236,217 views. It is heart-warming to see that people actually watch constructive humanitarian short films and not just stupid videos like a baby biting his brother’s fingers. This program is inspired by many innovations from around the world. Designed and developed by a student from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), The Solar Bottle Bulb is a device based on the principles of Appropriate Technologies – a concept that provides simple and easily- replicable technologies. The material used to build the device is a simple recycled soft drink plastic bottle and bleach.
One of the pioneers of the use of this renewable cheap solution is Alfredo Moser from Brazil but now many projects are exploding in the poorest countries around the world. Many of these projects like Isang Litrong Liwanag (A Litre of Light) in Philippines help create employment through social enterprises giving more positive effects to the community than just cheap illumination. It is true that some little projects like that can make the world a better place for all of us. We do not need much to make a difference.

You can do everything from your bare hands, you don’t need sophisticated tool to express yourself!
I like this video, the photography is excellent and it capture well the daily life in Singapore. The Singlish accent, the Public flat, the coffee shop and the big blend of Asian culture in a small island…Yes we are 138!
